What’s better than Prada nylon? Nothing you say? Well, wait till you hear about Prada Re-Nylon. We’re about to blow your socks off. Launched back in 2019, Prada Re-Nylon is a sustainable line that makes new additions of the brand’s signature go-to fabric, now created from a recycling and purification process of plastic waste collected from oceans, fishing nets and textile fibre waste. Pretty clever, no? Miuccia Prada kicked off the initiative last June through a partnership with textile yarn producer Aquafil, which aided the brand in mastering a regenerated nylon; Econyl. Kicking things off with a tight edit of six unisex bag styles, Prada Re-Nylon has now evolved into a fully-fledged collection, which will be debuted at Selfridges Corner Shop.
The launch is the first addition to Selfridges’ Project Earth, a fresh initiative that builds upon the retailer’s 15 years of work to make its business more sustainable from the inside out. Inside the Corner Shop, immersive multi-screens will display films produced by National Geographic. Each film is totally black and white, “the total absence of colour recalls the origins of the modern Prada Nylon DNA,” reads the press release. Kinda moody, we dig it. The collection features bucket hats, pinafores, military boots, anoraks and a family of classic Prada bags – all coated in Re-Nylon. Oh, and did we mention? The entire selection arrives at the Corner Shop an entire month before its global release mid-September. Plenty of time to nab your favourite pieces before your mates abroad do, ey?
Prada Re-Nylon arrives at Selfridges Corner Shop August 17.
