The Pradasphere’s headquarters are officially finalised and ready for action. Last night in Milan, the people of Prada took to the new building, Torre, to celebrate the completion of the Fondazione Prada’s Milan venue. Like Miuccia Prada’s own lair, bat cave style, but shooting through the clouds and with that iconic Autumn/ Winter 2018 show view. Designed by Rem Koolhaas, with Chris van Duijn and Federico Pompignoli, Torre consists of six exhibition levels, a rooftop terrace and a restaurant. All you need. We will be taking up residence there, culturing ourselves every day and eating the finest Italian foods as we gaze down upon Milan, all while dressed in Prada. Eat, Prada, Love. We’ve definitely dreamt this before. Inside the six levels, project “Atlas”, conceived by Mrs Prada and Germano Celant, has come alive. The exhibition consists of works from the Prada Collection from artists including Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst. The building sounds to be a bit all over the place, in the most fabulous way, with half the levels on a rectangular floor plan, whilst the other half are trapezoid. Concrete and glass surfaces meet, and diagonal structures connect Torre to Deposito, which includes a panoramic elevator. Into the future. “Together these variations produce a radical diversity within a simple volume – so that the interaction between the spaces and specific events or works of art offers an endless variety of conditions,” says Koolhaas.
