A homecoming for Nataša Čagalj and her design team (who all studied at Central Saint Martins) for Ports 1961’s AW17 collection. Literally and metaphorically. Not homecoming as in American high school with cheerleaders and such. More like coming home. Perhaps after a long day at work. The heating is on and it smells like home. Does it look familiar? That’s because the inspiration came from objects, textures and colours around the house. A vase or a bottle printed on a shirt. A Moroccan, woven-type material (think: fancy rug) turned into a bag and clutched at the model’s breast. Because you hold the things dear close to you. And then the staples in everybody’s wardrobes. But amped up. Your favourite sweater blown up to huge proportions, with sequins the size of saucers hanging off them. A trench coat spliced and re-sewn together to look like it was hanging off one shoulder. A blazer sliced to show off a bit of skin. So coming home may be the starting point, but why would you want to when you have these? Go out. Parade them around. It’ll be even more comforting when you do eventually come home
