When Mr Ralph Lauren makes it his personal mission to reinvent something, give his own fresh spin to it, you can find us in room 212 at Broadmoor Hospital, being shocked every hour, on the hour, with 150 volts of pure electric current to bring the spontaneous spasm of joy back under control. When he did that whole 4-D thing a while back, we had to be kept in isolation and undergo therapy for a month before we could be re-released into the world. So you can only imagine what happened when we heard about his new Polo boot collection. The men in white coats were ringing our doorbell within seconds of us hearing the news. We have an electronic tag, see. When our pulse races, they race to us. Well it’s hardly surprising that we found ourselves in this predicament yet again. Have you seen the boots? Have you not cast your eye over this fabulously designed page, made yet more fabulous thanks to the addition of a fabulously designed boot? Are you blind? If you want to get ahead in life, children, you really must start to pay more attention. Like Ralph. Admire, if you will, the attention to detail that has been paid. The perfectly moulded leather that fits your foot better than your own skin matches in hue perfectly the heavy rubber sole. The contrasting band of pale chocolate is exactly the same colour as the soft leather that lines the inside of the boot. The laces almost melt into the leather, creating another texture. Who knew that laces could be so much more than just something to keep your footwear on your foot? And since we’re at it, admire, too, the silver hooks. Notice how they point to the sole of the boot. How they are perfectly in line with the teeth on the rubber sole? How they, in fact, mimic that rubber sole. They add a toughness. You wouldn’t mess with it if you saw it stomping down the avenue. They’d be good for stomping, these. Especially in a crowd. If stuck behind one of those tourist types on Oxford Street, you could stomp all over them. Hard!
