Pleats Please Issey Miyake Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary

Since 1993, Pleats Please Issey Miyake has been bringing punchy colours, unadulterated pleasure and the freedom of movement into everyday dressing. Now, 30 years on from the birth of an icon, the label is celebrating its Pearl anniversary with the release of a special Pleats Please series and accompanying campaign film. Always striving to construct clothes that explode with a feeling of joy, the first collection, Path, expresses a motley of abstract prints that play with the brand’s name, with the letters that make up “Pleats Please” melting into a vivid mosaic. There are elegant monochromatic ensembles as well, counting trousers, tops and a shift dress. There’s also the label’s beloved Monthly Colours collection, which brings seven May pigments to life, featuring saturated shades and soft pastels inspired by the original Pleats Please logo. Through simple silhouettes, the pairing options are limitless. With fluid tops, trousers, tunics, a cardigan and a dress all on offer, it’s a collection designed for you to move through life with delight.

Season after season, Pleats Please Issey Miyake would experiment, until the team finally landed on an ideal fabric. It’s soft and lightweight with a gentle sheen, wrinkle resistant, static electricity resistant, comfortable to wear and simple to care for. Made with ease of mind, the garments can even be rolled up and carried compactly and when worn, the elasticity from the pleating process allows for the material to adapt to the wearer’s body type.

Leaping and pirouetting through a pastel fantasyland for the associated film, models spring into the garments of the Path and Monthly Colours collections, each collision representing a musical note; all of which harmonise together to create a sartorial symphony.
