Pierre Berge is selling his personal library. His collection, an Aladdin’s cave of literary gold, contains over a thousand books and manuscripts, some over 600 years old. Treasures by Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky and Shakespeare are among the collection which is to be sold in December of next year at Paris’ auction house Hotel Drouot. Not eBay, unfortunately. Before meeting Yves Saint Laurent and helping found his fashion house, Berge was a dealer in antiquarian books, accounting for his vast collection. If you have a fat wallet and some empty shelves, then get bidding.
