Phoebe English MAN: Menswear SS18

And we’re off – for her SS18 presentation, and our first of London Fashion Week Men’s, Phoebe English invited us to an impromptu pottery studio, replete with a plastic-wrapped set and handsome young men who were, well… “good with their hands”. Not a bad start. And the svelte collection was a decent proposition for getting, for lack of a more technical vocabulary, “stuck into” some clay. Remember how you used to have to bring in one of your dad’s old shirts for pottery lessons? Well, Phoebe’s roomy shirt dresses and striped collarless tunics created a similar effect, albeit hers were beautifully crafted and made in Britain, rather than polyester and from C&A but… you get the idea.

Rest of the collection had a utility feel, a bit Boy Scout, models wearing sack-like bags tied together with rope or functional loose-fitting trench coats. Perfect for all weather, which is handy because it is currently raining. What’s that things that Scouts say about being well prepared? Well, that.
