Peter Pilotto’s move from London to Milan Fashion Week wasn’t just a business decision. The migration was also reflected on the catwalk, their rigorously exuberant silhouettes seemed streamlined with a Mediterranean ease of summer dressing. Playing with all the colours in their box, Pilotto and his partner Christopher de Vos injected the spirit of retro pop into their fashion lingo. The Pilotto woman seems to be Benjamin Button-ing into her youth. Instead of elaborate tea dresses, she’s wearing shiny satin suits, mismatched Hawaiian twinsets and a lot of patterned knits. Once a proponent of the big straw hat, she’s now swapped it for a bucket one, matching the neon shades in her outfit. And she’s even got a boyfriend that matches too. The debut of Peter Pilotto menswear was a pleasant surprise that we’ll gladly add to our shopping list comes next season. With this show, the London-based duo confirmed something we knew for a long time – everyone can use an Italian holiday.
