The drama! The romance! The charm! Paolo Carzana brought it all for his AW24 offering, entitled Melanchronic Mountain. Starting with an ethereal performance which saw models float down the runway in pairs, subtly interacting with each other as they went, the showcase proved that the Sarabande scholar knows his groove well. Soundtracked by emotive, string-led music, the presentation felt like a surreal peek into another world.
Largely sticking to his signature techniques, Carzana draped and scrunched his lightweight fabrics to create dreamlike ensembles that felt equal parts whimsy and explicitly considered. Accessories complimented looks perfectly, with hair ties and knotted hats embodying the same endearing spirit as the garments. Sheer materials added a demure delicacy, whilst the lack of footwear – replaced only by a light layer of silver paint across toes – added to the essence of this otherworldly fantasy.
