Ottolinger is a label equipped to dress worlds beyond our own. Nymphs, elves and other outlandish beings have often been sources of inspiration for designers Christa Bösch and Cosima Gadient, who this season staged a physical showcase at a gaming cafe lodged along Rue de Rivoli.
First came a digital catwalk — shot in a latex maze and soundtracked by an original Azealia Banks track — which was beamed across rows of computer screens usually inhabited by gaming geeks for hours on end. Soon followed the clothes IRL. Cobwebby knits met fuzzy-trimmed vinyl coats and puffer dresses in oddball silhouettes. Oily bra tops and dresses clung to models’ torsos like hardened lava, while crushed velvet twinsets came wrapped in tentacle-like ropes.
What was more impressive than the brand’s epic footwear — which included XXL moon boots and furry heels — was Ottolinger’s first real foray into menswear, which included cracking duster coats and sexy woollen twinsets that snaked around the body. These would make a fitting wardrobe for the next big video game protagonist. Or better yet, could dress you to the club in the not so distant future.
