Opening Ceremony: Ready-to-wear SS16

For Spring, Opening Ceremony’s girl is a downtown, artsy one. One that has a little money, thanks to her first job in her friend’s New York gallery. She can now afford those loose trousers and shirts in slouchy silk, items she’s long dreamed of. A little black dress for next week’s launch. A billowing trench. But she hasn’t forgotten her art school past, oh no. She still has a hearty penchant for pom poms and buttons and graphic prints. She can’t resist them. Because this is a girl who hasn’t lost her joie de vivre. As if to prove it, Opening Ceremony’s models undertook and impromptu dance routine in the final walk through. A flash mob, if you like. Can you call it a flash mob that when it’s choreographed by the head of the New York Ballet, Justin Peck? Probably not. There were lots of flailing long limbs and arms, an intentional fall. It was all very artfully done. Very Frances Ha. But also surprising. So surprising, in fact, we almost dropped our iPhone in shock.
