No 21: Ready-To-Wear SS24

Alessandro Dell’Acqua SS24 collection for No.21 paid homage to his hometown of Naples, exploring the dichotomy between beauty and sadness that plasters the city’s history. Blending elements of aristocracy, drama and sensuality, the 38-look offering – entitled Veiled Contrasts – fused a dainty design lexicon with tough and gritty frays. Simple lingerie was sent onto the runway undone and paired with delicate, lace-fronted headbands. An early swathe of white mini dresses contrasted the increasingly masculine suiting and black, netted face covers. Sheer, spaghetti-strapped slip dresses adorned with swollen sequins were spread throughout, emphasising the playful mischief of Dell’Acqua’s seasonal take. Steering only slightly away from its monochromatic palette, the offering was splashed with moments of canary yellow and powdery blue, lightly evoking a sugary charm. Infusing elements of customary costume, the designer presented faux brides and modish mourners to evoke themes of optimism and darkness.

Femininity was a consistent and overt facet of each look, manifesting in ruffled or flappy peter-pan collars and plunging necklines. Dedicated to a woman’s right to freewheeling expression and uninhibited independence, confidence and passion were distinctly celebrated.

A testament to the city’s transcendent allure, Dell’Acqua delivered a nod to the spirit, romance and lust for life that flows through Neapolitan culture. No.21 vision for summer was sexy, sweet and sultry.
