An early morning appointment at the Nicholas Kirkwood boutique (it’s a hard life) as the British shoe genius launched the second part of his “Presents” series, a project designed to showcase emerging world talents and give them a platform within his Mount Street store to show off their wares. Part 1 of the series, which launched last month, celebrated the Frieze Art Fair with an installation by artist Harzoon Mirza, but this time he’s “presenting” fellow designer, Eva Fehren.
Eva Fehren is a fine jeweller, and CFDA nominee, whose pieces clash urban patterns and architectural inspirations with delicate forms and precious materials – like her signature kite-cut diamonds. Kirkwood chose her for the way that her work is congruous with his own – both designers creating body adornments that are bold, graphic and totally luxurious.
“I am fascinated by the way Eva approaches jewellery,” Nicholas told 10. “There are a lot of similarities between our design codes, which I think comes across quite clearly when you visit the pop-up space. Her jewellery compliments the footwear in store beautifully.”
“Customers value experience as much as they do amazing product,” said Nicholas on how the project came about. “When we were refurbishing the store, it was very important for me to seize the opportunity to create something that elevated the experience in store, that immersed customers deeper into the brand’s world in a personal and natural way. I wanted to share something unique with my client, like a brand that is completely new to London or an artist whose way of seeing the world really challenges my own. I find collaboration, in general, to be a wonderful source of inspiration, particularly when I’m collaborating with other disciplines.”
The installation by Eva Fehren launches in-store today, and will run into the new year, marking the first chance to buy the designer’s work in the UK. Part 3 of the “Presents” series will involved Simone Gooch of Fjura, a florist, just in time for Valentine’s day. Aw.
