Has it been a year already? A whole 365 days since Loewe first teamed up with the design wizards at Studio Ghibli for a limited-edition capsule collection based on the film My Neighbor Totoro, Jonathan Anderson has called upon the Japanese animation house once more, this time for a collection dedicated to the Oscar-winning Spirited Away.
Following a slew of illustrious artist collaborations with the likes of Tom of Finland to Gilbert and George, Anderson marries key pieces from the Loewe back catalogue with the lovable characters from the 2001 flick.
Chihiro, Yubaba, and the spirit with no face all appear across ready-to-wear pieces, blankets, scarves and beloved Loewe bags, including the Amazona and the Puzzle.
As a house indebted to the highest level of craft, the Spanish house adopts the Japanese ‘boro’ technique, which involves patchworking indigo-dyed scraps of fabric together to create intarsia of Kasuri textiles. There’s also an Anagram jacquard canvas used on a selection of pieces. For the serious Studio Ghibli lovers.
