Ten Craves: Taiba Taiba’s Wearable Hair, Christopher John Rogers’ Clown-Core Collection And More!

TEN CRAVES IS OUR ONLINE SERIES THAT ROUNDS UP ALL THE BEST PRODUCT LAUNCHES AND MUST-KNOW FASHION HAPPENINGS WEEK IN, WEEK OUT.

CHLOÉ NARDIN’S ‘GUTS’

Subverting the traditional “knight’s tale”, Chloé Nardin’s AW23 collection transforms everyday men into the heroes of their own story. Dubbed, Guts – after the valiant swordsman from the cult anime series, Berserk, you’ll feel like a prince swathed in her signature sportswear silhouettes, now juxtaposed by military elements and embedded with androgyny. Also tracing themes of childhood and how they manifest in adulthood through the incorporation of design details, the use of dead-stock childrenswear fabrics take a tender perspective on traditional masculinity. To be presented this January in Paris as part of the British Fashion Council initiative ‘London Show Rooms’, this collection is for the knights in shining Chloé Nardin.

CHRISTOPHER JOHN ROGERS CLOWN-Y COLLECTION

Aptly named, It’s My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To, Christopher John Rogers new collection is a chic and avant-garde adaptation of the classic harlequin heroine. But while it may seem silly, this joyful, Jester-like style is no joke; Rogers creates elegant and tender evening gowns, jumpsuits and sartorially splendid tailoring. Its allure lies in its blurring of the lines between gender-specific codes with a focus on themes of escapism because gender stereotypes don’t exist in the circus tent. If you’ve got coulrophobia – a legitimate phobia of clowns – not to worry, because this zany collection gives us cause to be a clown year-round. Shop now.

TAIBA TAIBA’S HAIRY HEAVEN

Coif, curl and comb those tresses because Taiba Taiba’s inaugural collection of surreal wearable art, called Bundles of Paradise, is here. Arising as an extension and evolution of her mutli-media hair exhibition last year, We Need Some More Black in Hair, the subversive hairstylist’s clothing designs and accessories are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Made up of intricate homeware, braided stools and mirrors, hairy hat designs and upcycled installations, her self-proclaimed ‘outlandish’ hair creations come to life, locks and all. There are full whimsical looks too, from textured hair boots, trousers and crop tops to braided trainers and sculptured hair, all inspired by the one-of-a-kind beauty of rare birds of paradise and its likeness to the distinctive nuances of braiding and black hair.

PRADA’S ‘TOUCH OF CRUDE’ CAMPAIGN AND SHORT FILM

Playing off the ability of actors and models to encapsulate an ‘otherness’ by their very nature, Prada’s poignant campaign for the SS23 season is a star spangled presentation of the men’s and women’s collections birthed by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons. Entitled, A Touch of Crude, the film by Nicolas Winding Refn (NWR) – who created an immersive environment at the women’s summer 2023 catwalk – explores the lives of women and the scope of fluid modern femininity. It’s a family affair as well, starring sisters Lola and Lizzielou Corfixen, alongside their mother Liv Corfixen, NWR’s children and wife respectively. Meanwhile David Sims‘ sensitive stills draw upon the characteristics of classic Hollywood and European movies, placing Vincent Cassel, Jaehyun Jeong, Louis Partridge, Hunter Schafer and Letitia Wright, alongside the models Guinevere van Seenus and Rachel Williams, centre stage. Watch the film here.
