Just as London Fashion Week is set to commence, the 20 semi-finalists for the prestigious LVMH prize have been announced. From over 1,900 applications, the 2022 shortlisted designers hail from thirteen countries – with a Sri Lankan debut from designer Amesh Wijesekera and a return from a 2017 semi-finalist, Palomo Spain.
Again this year, with the public able to explore the shortlist and vote between March 4 to the 9 on lvmhprize.com. Alongside public votes, a panel of industry experts and veterans will select eight of the shortlist to reach the final where the winner of the LVMH prize will receive a lucrative 300,000 euro endowment and a year of mentoring. With nine genderless designers on the shortlist this year, executive vice-president of Louis Vuitton, Delphine Arnault, said: “The fluidity of womenswear and menswear is another key feature of this edition,” alongside an emphasis on sustainable responsibility.
Last year’s prize was won by Fashion East alum Nensi Dojaka, could a Brit-based designer take home the gong again? With the likes of Maximilian, KNWLS, Goom Heo, and S.S.Daley all nominated, the LVMH Prize might just be coming home.
