In fashion terms, summer doesn’t truly begin until Jonathan Anderson unveils his latest Loewe Paula’s Ibiza collection. Just in time for balmy nights spent on sweaty dancefloors, piña colada in one hand, a ciggy in the other, the annual capsule is inspired by the hedonistic aura of the Balearic island, and the ravers who’ve flocked to its sandy shores each year for summers of total freedom.
Borrowing its name from Paula’s, a now-shuttered boutique responsible for the island’s bohemian way of dressing, the collection is a carefree collision of vivid colour, eccentric prints, abbreviated hemlines and party-primed silhouettes. On the agenda this time around is sequin-laden dresses, over-dyed denim separates, sharable tops and easy-breezy shorts plastered in surfer graphics and cactus motifs. These are joined by a hand-crocheted rainbow crop top and a crushed velvet slip dress with seashells sprinkled along the hem – because, if you’re by the sea, you may as well dress the part.
For the accessories, Anderson has beach-readied a series Loewe classics, including the Puzzle and Amazona – whether they’re built from woven straw and raffia, or dazzle in ombré gradients akin to that of a cocktail. Sex on the beach, anyone?
When it comes to tantalising the senses, though, a freshly concocted Loewe scent does the trick. The second scent in the Loewe Paula’s Ibiza collection, Eclectic is a woody, floral and gourmand Eau de Toilette that blends Madagascan mandarin, black pepper and jasmine sambac – bottled in a ombré-shaded glass cylinder. So, what’s stopping you? Throw on your new kit, have a few sprays and let loose – a night of mischief awaits.
