Will is missing his Geordie boy. His Newcastle-based long-distance boyfriend. They say love knows no distance. But Will and his Geordie boy’s love knows a 277-mile distance. Perhaps that’s why, when I turned around after taking a closer look at Levi’s spring/summer collection, I found my Will embracing this mannequin. From behind. It’s not the first time I’ve walked in on him resorting to inanimate objects in a desperate attempt to satisfy his desire for human intimacy so I wasn’t too taken aback. Particularly as said inanimate object was clad in Levi’s denim. Because Levi’s do denim well. Very well. They are in the world of denim what Nigella Lawson is in the world of cooking (or in the male chauvinist’s world of sexual fantasy): the creme de la creme. Their spring/summer collection was as functional as it was desirable, with inspiration taken from San Francisco – the city’s life as well as its graffiti and street art. The clothes were wonderfully considered, from the customisation on the jackets to the water repellant denim and reinforced crotches designed for cyclists. So maybe that’s why Will was embracing this mannequin – the sheer excellence of Levi’s denim. Still, I think he’s just missing his Geordie boy.
