The telly’s been crap as of late, hasn’t it? After three grueling lockdowns, we reckon we’ve got repetitive strain injury from all that scrolling through Amazon Prime (and we’ve watched just about everything on Netflix, too). So, when this brand new James Corden-presented Gucci chat show – with a star-studded guest list, no less – popped into our inbox today, we practically jumped through the roof.
Ok ok, it’s not a real show. But it’s got Harry Styles in, as well as Serena Williams and Sienna Miller – so what’s not to obsess over? It’s Alessandro Michele’s clever little way of showcasing the four signature handbags which make up Gucci’s Beloved Lines. The GG Marmont, Jackie 1961, Dionysus, and Gucci Horsebit 1955 look rather fantastic when perched on the lap of global superstars. So much so, that we just might have to carry our own Gucci bags around Soho and pretend we’re big Hollywood names ourselves. No paparazzi, please.
“I truly love and adore my handbags,” says Michele, who before taking the helm as creative director 2015, worked closely with Frida Giannini – Gucci’s former label boss – on accessories as the house’s associate director. “Perhaps they will always be my greatest love, my favourite accessory. It was therefore natural for me to call some of the ones I created ‘Beloved’. The name comes from my own personal experience and my love for them.”
