A dose of Donatellan advice courtesy of her talk at the V&A yesterday where she had a gab with Tim Blanks all about her new book, VERSACE, in front of an assembled crowd of glam fashion sorts. Nothing like a bit of self-help on a Sunday from a woman who is, quite literally, a walking, talking God-dess. Obviously we were rapt listening to what she had to say, talking over her time at the helm of Versace and the iconic images that make up the Rizzoli-published book which features photography from Richard Avedon, Steven Meisel, and Mario Testino. Not that we actually heard much because upon her entering the stage we descended into a strange trance-like state of momentary paralysis at being so close to, and possibly breathing the same air as, the legendary fashion designer. As well as the onstage natter, Donatella also donated a dress to the museum, for which she said, “I am so happy to donate this Versace dress to the incredible collection at the V&A Museum. I have such happy memories of wearing this dress, and metal mesh is one of the most iconic Versace signatures. I hope it will be of interest and inspiration for generations to come.” Attempts to try on said dress after the talk were, unfortunately, rebuffed. Next time.
