Delfina Delettrez Keeps it in the family with her ‘1987’ Jewellery Collection

What are the Fendi family values? A taste for quality and modernity defines this Italian dynasty, led by generations of strong women. Delfina Delettrez Fendi channels all the qualities of her clan into her jewellery. “I was taught that aesthetic is substance and not ephemeral at all, alongside a powerful maternal heritage,” she says as she unveils her new collection, named 1987, after the year she was born. Inspired by the classic diamond tennis bracelet, Delettrez takes the idea of an elegant line of diamonds and fuses it with her distinctive design vocabulary. The 1987 collection has pieces that are both rigid and sinuous. It’s a dualism she has made her signature.

The women in her family constantly inspire Delettrez, so the decision to shoot her new collection on her sister Leonetta (above right) and cousin Nina (above left) during lockdown came naturally. “We were all there together,” she says. “I know how real they all are, strong women with strong personalities.”

Those Fendi family values have always empowered her. “Family is my root,” she says, “but also my strength to look at the future while not just concentrating on myself. I decided to build my family very young – I had my first daughter at 20, the same year I founded my brand. Motherhood made me feel almost omnipotent and it deeply inspired my designs.”
