When Stuart Vevers was plotting his second Coach collaboration with Disney he was channelling his inner villain. Malificent perhaps? “You poor, simple fools. Thinking you could defeat me. Me! The mistress [master] of all evil!” We can’t imagine sweet Stuart cackling over a cauldron but maybe over a fabulous sinister Coach collection. This delve into darkness seems so natural following the haunted forest themed Autumn/ Winter 2018 show with all it’s forbidden fruit deep reds and oranges, we called it a modern gothic American Horror Story. Now it’s moved to the street. T-shirts and leather bags with Snow White apples morphed into dripping poisoned skulls, and hoodies printed with Sleeping Beauty’s castle looming in a black silhouette under gothic writing, like a classic band merch tee. For the fans. And of course there are classic Coach varsity jackets, more suited to the emo clique at school. “I have always loved Disney – both the movies and the fantasy worlds created that have captured my imagination for many decades.” Vevers said. “It was fun to explore the darker side of these stories and mix Disney’s nostalgic charm with Coach’s creativity to bring my memories from these fairy tales to life within our world of accessories and ready-to-wear.” We love a happy-never-ending.
