Nensi Dojaka: Ready-To-Wear SS22

It’s great to see Nensi Dojaka flourishing. We’ve known her to be a major talent ever since she emerged on the Fashion East catwalk. It was there that she first displayed the intricacy, craft and singular aesthetic that recently won her the prestigious LVMH Prize. This was Dojaka’s first solo show and she rose to the occasion, beautifully.

Everything – casting, hair, make-up and the collection itself – was on point. Inspired by lingerie and revelling in intricate craft techniques, Dojaka’s clothes have an intimacy about them. They draw you in. Abbreviated dresses, hang from bralettes pieced together from delicate fabrics. Slender, rouleau straps criss-cross the back, framing the body in fine lines. Fine, veils of fabric are layered to reveal and conceal whilst high-waisted trousers and sharp shouldered blazers show she’s an exacting tailor.

This is body con for a new age. It thrills with sophistication and there’s not a shred of vulgarity. Dojaka’s clothes are delicate but dynamic and steeped in skilful craft. One dress was made up of nine different fabrics and thirteen panels and most were worn with Dojaka’s extraordinary, sheer hosiery, fashioned with peepholes and divinely delicate tulle flowers on the thigh. Dojaka triumphed.
