In the way that the Rolling Stones once sang of her, well a “her” (who she was was never really discussed), and how she came in colours, like a rainbow, colours in the air, so Neil Barrett designs in a rainbow, a muted rainbow for him. A rainbow of white, navy, grey, camel and black, not quite seven colours, but a rainbow no less. A tasteful and tonal rainbow, at the end of which you would probably find a selection of Neil Barrett fashions, rather than the mythical pot of gold. The reason for the rainbow is that the models came out in blocks of colour. There was the odd hit of purple, and yellow, so technically there were seven colours, but predominantly there were five, which is why we will call this a rainbow of five colours. A rainbow made up of bonded fabrics and rigorous and disciplined silhouettes. Each colour in the rainbow, it would seem, has been chosen for what it means. A reflection of Neil Barrett’s design ethos via the medium of hue.
WHITE is colour at its most complete and pure, the colour of perfection. The colour meaning of white is purity, innocence, wholeness and completion. White is the colour of new beginnings, of wiping the slate clean, so to speak. It is the blank canvas waiting to be written upon. While white isn’t stimulating to the senses, it opens the way for the creation of anything the mind can conceive.
GREY is the colour of compromise – being neither black nor white, it is the transition between two non-colours. The closer grey gets to black, the more dramatic and mysterious it becomes. The closer it gets to silver or white, the more illuminating and lively it becomes. Being both motionless and emotionless, grey is solid and stable, creating a sense of calm and composure, relief from a chaotic world.
BLACK relates to the hidden, the secretive and the unknown, and as a result it creates an air of mystery. It gives protection from external emotional stress. Black means power and control. It implies self-control and discipline, independence and a strong will, and gives an impression of authority and power.
NAVY is the colour of intuition and perception and is helpful in opening the third eye. It promotes deep concentration during times of introspection and meditation, helping you achieve deeper levels of consciousness.
CAMEL is practical and reliable, conservative, constant, unchanging and loyal. Camel is a serious, down-to-earth colour signifying stability, structure and support. It is practical and reliable, conservative, constant, unchanging and loyal.
