Narciso Rodriguez is back at it again with smart, sleek evening wear. Would you expect anything less? But, wait. That wasn’t all. It was sort of back to basics for SS17. “The starting point was to bring it back to clothes that are smart, wearable and beautifully made with beautiful fabrics,” said Narciso of the show. It was a kind of mix. Black bias silk dresses sat next to double-knit trackpants. This was fabric, as he made clear to us, that he considered “rich” instead of “sleazy.” And obviously we love everything rich. “I really wanted to make something as chic and architectural as a tracksuit, something you could wear at any point in the day. It’s what you need, right?” Yes, it is. And really, that was the best part of the collection. These were clothes that we need. Now. Or sooner. That pop of bright orange, those photogram silk dresses, created from Narciso manipulating photographs he took of light hitting the body. “I love clothes that are smart,” he said. “Those are the clothes that excite me the most. Clothes that we feel good about that you can wear today, next year and can keep forever.” We’re excited. Who doesn’t want something they can keep forever?
