As Naomi Campbell Wins the BFC’s 2019 Fashion Icon Award – We Remember Her Legendary Off-Duty Looks

All bow down to Queen Naomi. Yesterday evening it was announced that the legendary supermodel will be the 2019 recipient of the BFC’s Fashion Icon award. And we couldn’t think of a better fit. The born-and-bread South Londoner has sauntered down catwalks across all corners of the globe, making jaws fall to the floor on countless occasions, across a career spanning over thirty years. From her mad-dash in stiletto heels at Dsquared2 AW03 to playing Russian Roulette at Versace SS98, and a triumphant Valentino appearance for Couture back in January – a Naomi moment at fashion week is always set to be a showstopper.

Naomi is a woman of firsts; becoming the first black model to appear on the cover of Time, British Vogue and American Vogue’s September Issue. In the last decade or so though, Naomi’s philanthropic efforts have been equally outstanding and this is what the BFC have chosen to highlight. Founding Fashion Relief back in 2005, the charitable organisation has raised millions in aide of disaster relief – helping the victims of the Japan tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and the refugee crisis. The supermodel is also aiming to put African fashion on the map, walking for LVMH Prize nominee Kenneith Ize at Lagos’ Arise Fashion Week back in April.“We cannot think of a more deserving recipient than iconic Londoner Naomi Campbell, she has achieved exceptional work in the industry,” says Caroline Rush, BFC Chief Executive. “Naomi represents female empowerment, activism and glamour and her voice is used for great impact.”

In honour of the tremendous occasion, Team Ten have picked our favourite Naomi off-duty fashion moments:

Naomi Campbell will receive the BFC’s 2019 Fashion Icon Award at the Fashion Awards on December 2nd at the Royal Albert Hall.
