Nabil Nayal: Ready-to-Wear SS19

We love a good royal-themed collection here at Ten Towes. And that’s exactly what Nabil Nayal’s London Fashion Week debut was. Nabil is currently studying for a doctorate in Elizabethan dress, and so it showed. The beautiful craftsmanship reminiscent of the elaborate fashion of the era took over his own world of ready-to-wear – oversized shirting, menswear-inspired tailoring and smock-style dresses. It seemed like a perfect merging of the old and new, created something royal out of seemingly everyday clothes.

Perhaps it was the venue adding a bit of drama to the clothes too. Set inside one of the space of the British Library, the monumental set played up to the Queen Elizabeth I-inspired collections. Writings of hymns and paintings of the Queen graced the classic silhouettes. The highlight was still the updates on a classic white shirt which Nabil is already known for. One in particular was inspiring a whole set of outfits we could imagine wearing with it. And that was the best part about it – even though the clothes exuded with regalness, all of them were easily imaginable as worn in a contemporary setting.

On our way out from the presentation, we overheard Nabil chatting to the stylist taking care of Olivia Coleman’s wardrobe for the upcoming seasons of The Crown, where the the British actress is playing Queen Elizabeth II. And that was a match made in heaven.
