Mugler: Ready-to-Wear SS19

In the nine months he’s been behind the helm, Casey Cadwallader shifted Mugler into a new direction, without losing the essence of the name. And for SS19, his unique vision has finally stepped onto the catwalk, in its full, sexy glory. Manfred Thierry Mugler was a hero of his times, bringing a new kind of sex appeal to the somewhat stuffy catwalks, turning women into goddesses and moulding their bodies into perfection. A few decades later and the conversation feels a bit different. The empowerment doesn’t necessarily come from perfection, but from a feeling of comfort and a slightly more natural sense of beauty. And in that sense, Casey is doing exactly what Thierry was in his heyday. Creating clothes that allow its wearers to feel free and powerful. And look fabulous.

The latest of Mugler’s offering also includes a stellar level of craftsmanship which gives these clothes a sense of magical powers. The painted rubber-like materials in the most exquisite expressionist colour-ways walked along sporty silhouettes, including stitched-up bralettes and bicycle shorts. In an industry where each new creative director seems to be attempting to turn their brand into something from the opposite end of the spectrum, it’s refreshing to see a creative brain that takes his role as a natural progression of one joint timeline. All we saw looked new, but completely fitted within the Mugler archive. And we’ll always say yes to that.
