It turns out Massimo Giorgetti has been doing a fair bit of stargazing over the last few years. “It has been therapeutic, a diversion, even just a game,” he shared. “I thought of the stars as a constant element in our lives, visible to all in every corner of the globe, companions in adventure and a compass not to get lost.”
From this stimuli came his MSGM autumn/winter 22 collection – and take our word, there is no going unnoticed in it. Stars showered the show: as open-knit lace dresses, as twinkling beaded minis, as intarsia knitwear, as appliqué on shirting, and embellished micro-sequins on the lapels of blazers, coats and jeans. His voyage into outer space continued as slinky dresses and tight jersey tops came printed with maps of the galaxy and abstract UFOs, the latter particularly snazzy when teamed with a coated inky-blue suit.
While the show notes relayed that the minimalist elements of the collection were a departure for Giorgetti, the show had all the familiar MSGM charisma that imbues it with its alternative appeal. Staged in the new MSGM HQ in Milan, it was as though we had entered Giorgetti’s new-age universe, which is always a pretty magical place to be.
