Trust Jeremy Scott to turn a nightmare into something joyous. His Moschino show started with a dream sequence phone call from Gigi Hadid along the lines of: “Where are you Jeremy? The show’s about to start and there’s no clothes!” “All I have is my sketches,” says a horrified Scott. And there you have the conceit for the show; fashion sketches of the old school variety.
The backdrop was a recreation of YSL’s studio and the looks referenced the great designer’s big-shouldered, dressy 80’s glamour with outfits “coloured-in” as if by a giant Magic Marker. There were puff-sleeved skirt suits, nipped in tailors, tulip-skirted wrap dresses and bow-fronted bustiers. The models even wore scribbled-on nude tights. Stephen Jones finished each the looks with elegant pincushion hats. The haute dressmaking theme carried through to evening. Dresses also came with bolts of fabric as trains and a jangling needle gown, referencing Franco Moschino’s original. It was joyful, playful, profoundly rooted in fashion history and beautifully done. Bravo Jeremy…
