The ever anticipated Moncler collaboration is set to grace us for yet another year, and who’s new on the Genius roster? Matthew Williams of 1017 Alyx 9SM and Richard Quinn. In addition to Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli (now joined by supermodel and muse Lisa Kebede), Moncler 1952, Moncler Grenoble, Simone Rocha, Craig Green, Fragment Fujiwara Hiroshi and Palm Angels, the newcomers will debut their collabs on February 20th, during Milan Fashion Week.
Upon its inception in 2016, the genius collections have tout to pave the way for a community-based, culture-led experience of fashion, for both designers and consumers. Electing those whose work represent a reflection of the times and convey the Moncler ethos wholly: “One House, Different Voices”. Though the two exist in different sphere’s of fashion, it’s Alyx, in street fashion, and Quinn in high fashion, both lines stand for visual codes of modern luxury.
Richard Quinn, whose 2016 MA graduate show was grabbed by fashion editors everywhere, has since been the first recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British design. Quinn has remained true to his view of outreach with an open studio for CSM students and students from his former secondary school. The generous master print maker he is, he has lent his skills to the likes of Burberry and many more.
Alyx, also established in 2016, has boomed upon its release and is continuing to prove itself as the next street style giant. From creative direction within the music industry for over a decade, Matthew Williams’ portfolio includes work for Lady Gaga and Kanye West, as well as being part of the original hypebeast pioneers with fashion collective, Been Trill, together with Virgil Abloh and Heron Preston. We’re thinking utility, we’re thinking mesh and perhaps (our personal fave) a chunky shoe – it’s only right.
Floral puffers and tulle à la Quinn? Elongated utility vests and straps galore comme Alyx? This is set to be a collaboration for the ages and who knows, perhaps even a cameo from a royal.
The Moncler Genius presentation for AW19 will take place in Milan on February 20th.
