What is it about Miu Miu that nails the zeitgeist every time? The brand keeps delivering sexy-subversive, pop-but-weird fits that chime.
The first look consisted of layers of fine-gauge knits and T-shirts, the colour of chewing gum or putty. A kind of symphony of nothing pieces, they added up to something interesting. Little cropped camisoles were layered in quadruple, atop slip skirts pulled down to the hips to reveal the waistbands of yet more layers beneath. All these layers suggesting that the surface is only one component part of the whole.
Throw an off-white nylon cagoule over it and those who remember the debut of Prada Sport sat up straight. They were cooing with pleasure when the drawstring hemmed cagoule dresses stated to come out (provocatively unzipped at the back to create a deliciously deep and chic V).
The belt skirts of recent seasons were reimagined as hip hugging, velcro fastening, utility belts complete with boxy pockets. They came in dirty washed denim, bartered brown leather and nylon with matching bra tops.
There was a sense of deconstructed deshabille, with the silk lining on oversized jackets falling down below the hemline. Evening wear was more of the same layered-up, gauzy looks, lavished with sequins and sparkly embroidery. FKA Twigs closed the show in a satin utility-belt mini skirt and navy cable knit layered over a crisp white shirt. It leaned in heavily on the label’s love of uniforms. Simple. Impactful. Viral. Very Miu Miu.
