Miuccia Prada traditionally closes Paris with a party, via her Miu Miu show. It’s not a literal party – although they do serve drinks after, if you’re not legging it out to the 4.13 Eurostar and can stay a while. But rather there’s a party atmosphere to the clothes, thrown together, between Prada’s Milan show and this, in two weeks flat (Mrs Prada has stated that as fact). This time the party went a bit Abigail’s Party, with filmy negligees layered over strict tailoring, bottomed by stomping seventies-style snakeskin boots, a thunderbolt of crystal across the sturdy heel. This was Miu Miu in mix-up mode – it reminded me a bit of a cocktail, as in the actual drink not the party, throwing together disparate elements – a bit of tweed, some tailoring, jacquard coats in a sludgy Formica graphic – to make an intoxicating new whole. That’s always the deal with Mrs Prada, whatever the label attached to it. And as the closing statement on a stellar spring/summer season in Paris, it still managed to quench a thirst. An insatiable thirst for great clothes, whipped together into outfits that became great fashion. Get ready to see these ideas popping up all over come autumn/winter 2016. Which isn’t even that far away…
