Ahh… Good ol’ Americana. It has been a common theme running through New York fashion as of late. Everyone from Telfar to Matthew Adams Dolan and Raf Simons at Calvin Klein have used clever little tools to move past the artificial perception that representing Americana in popular culture which merely comes down to hotdogs, baseball and Uncle Sam’s wadding finger. So who better to offer a fresh perspective on that that “god bless America” spirit than the all-American, Michael Kors.
To the soundtrack of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, the native New Yorker celebrated the “strength and optimism and can-do attitude” of the Big Apple. Preppy varsity jumpers with frayed hems and grandad cardigans walked alongside polkadot jumpsuits and checkered coat-dresses with petal-like sleeves. Tiny gold anchors adorned bathing suits, bags and blazers for the girls, and crewneck jumpers for the boys. They make the perfect attire for a quick get-away to the Hamptons. Whilst there wasn’t exactly stars and stripes anywhere to be seen, one geranium pleated gown, if you look closely, is dotted with tiny silver star studs – ideal if you’re wanting to spruce things up next Fourth of July.
