FASHION IS ART: 10 BEST DRESSED AT THE MET GALA 2026

And just like that, the first Monday in May is here again. This year’s dress code, “Fashion is Art,” is a nod to the Costume Institute‘s exhibition Costume Art, which places historical and contemporary items of clothing alongside paintings, sculptures and other objects from the Met’s collection to highlight the relationship between body and garment. It’s fashion’s biggest night—the Met Gala is where designers and stars alike express their wildest fashion fantasies, drawing on fine art for inspiration. Alongside Anna Wintour, co-chairs include Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams, who have all made an impression on tonight’s red carpet. From Madonna in Saint Laurent to Chase Infiniti as a living artwork and Beyoncé’s custom Olivier Rousteing gown, tonight did not disappoint. See our ten favourite looks of the night below.

1. BEYONCÉ RETURNS TO THE MET

A decade in the making, Beyoncé makes an epic return to the Met red carpet. Widely rumoured that she is about to announce her rock-inspired new album, the superstar is co-chair for the evening, opting for a skeleton-inspired gown by her close collaborator Olivier Rousteing, the first custom gown by the designer since he exited Balmain in November.

2. COLMAN DOMINGO GOES BOLD

For this Met Gala, the actor and playwright goes bold in a multicoloured harlequin-print Valentino look with a coordinating cummerbund, Boucheron jewellery, and an Omega watch. Look closer, and you’ll also see a touch of pastel blue eyeshadow.

3. RIRI AND A$AP ARE FOREVER COUPLE GOALS

Everyone’s favourite couple Rihanna and A$AP Rocky never dissapoint on the Met Gala red carpet. Tonight Riri opted for an Artisanal Maison Margiela look, while A$AP donned a Chanel robe.

4. SABRINA IS ALL WRAPPED UP

After wearing a slew of custom Dior looks for her Coachella headline performances, Sabrina Carpenter unites with Jonathan Anderson once more, wearing a beautiful dress that appeared to be made using old film.

5. TEYANA TASSEL TAYLOR

The multi-hyphenate commits to a head-to-toe silver tassel look from Tom Ford, continuing the strong red carpet presence she’s had all awards season. Playful yet powerful, the look almost seems to be melting, shifting shape with each step.

6. CHASE INFINITI IS A BODY OF ART

The rising star radiates in a rainbow-coloured Thom Browne gown, covered in over 1.5 million stacked sequins. The dress, inspired by the Venus de Milo, also features tiered silk fringes in over 600 different colours. A work of art, indeed.

7. MADONNA GOES GOTH

The queen of pop might be returning to the dance floor with her Confessions II album promo, but Madge opted for a gothic surrealist look by Anthony Vaccarello at Saint Laurent.

8. JENNIE SHINES

K-pop star Jennie wears a look from Matthieu Blazy’s recent Chanel Cruise show presented in Biarritz. She floated over the carpet like a mermaid, with the metallic sequins of her dress shimmering the whole way up the stairs.

9. Hunter Schafer Channels Klimt

You can always count on Hunter Schafer to bring a lewk. Tonight, she wears an elegant Prada dress that appears to be wilting away, falling into a beautiful floral train. The dress is inspired by Gustav Klimt’s Mada Primavesi.

10. Alex Consani Is A Vision

Taking to the Met carpet, model Alex Consani wears a custom Gucci by Demna dress, covered in black feathers, inspired by Sandro Botticelli’s Primavera.
