The world is watching Meryll Rogge. Not just because she’s a fresh breath of air, but because she’s about to become the next creative director of Marni. In her SS26 collection at her namesake brand, she served up clothes cut with the rebellious flare that we’re certain to see in her upcoming role at the Italian house.
Calling the collection I’m Not Wild, she took us on an exploration into the multitudes of life, inspired by Cookie Mueller’s autobiography Walking Through Clear Water in a Pool Painted Black. With a carefree attitude, the clothes represented how dress can turn into a collection of extraordinary memories made out of everyday life. Think ever evolving and innovative identities, friendships and careers all in one lifetime.
That meant lace was layered upon lime green satin dresses in striking blue and ruby red – a truly unexpected combo. Then, moving into striped men’s shirting, with button-up knitted vests and double-breasted trench coats styled on top, a modern flare shone through the classics. There was a sporty vibe to the collection at times, with a blue bomber jacket and super short shorts that were barely there, and a cobalt teddy dress showed a different side to the collection’s personality, giving the wearer limitless freedom to reinvent themselves over and over again.
For jewellery, Rogge collaborated with Antwerp-based designers Wouters & Hendrix, who melded together silver hoops to form choker necklaces peppered with studs, pearls and pendants – a punk take on everyday dressing.
Glamorous, yet rugged and tough, we’re beginning to understand how Rogge’s design-mind works. And it’s something we don’t want to miss.
