As it unravelled this last September, Balenciaga’s Spring 2019 show was shown as an immersive experience. Loud music and an even louder set in the form of a video tunnel designed by contemporary artist Jon Rafman served as the backdrop of the défilé of 76 full looks. And when we say full, we mean full. To the brim. Shoes, bags, belts, jewellery… Since the beginning of his Balenciaga takeover, Demna Gvasalia has been a supporter of executing a vision from top to bottom. And this season, his head-to-toe look also included a whole range of some pretty fab sunglasses which are finally going on sale, launching this week as part of a worldwide exclusive at Dover Street Market.
As Balenciaga’s first collection of sunnies developed with Kering Eyewear, it consists of 13 different unisex shapes in a whole varieties of colours. Neons and spicy reds, as well as your trusted shades of black and tortoise – these frames are futuristic in a 1980s kinda way (think Back to the Future), and carry a dose of humour that’s synonymous with Gvasalia’s work. As for the shopping experience, DSM has got you covered. In addition to launching online – where most of the frames already sit against a “sold out” sign – the collection is launching in the Dover Street Market locations worldwide. Tokyo, Los Angeles, New York City, London, Singapore and Beijing DSMs are all currently housing Balenciaga eyewear pop-ups featuring the houses new signature print and faux-industrial interior. Where you’ll shop for these, it’s totally up to you. But shop, you must.
Balenciaga Eyewear is exclusively available at Dover Street Market stores worldwide and online.
