Milanese menswear is known for its revered talents and globally adored names, but a new generation of designers are carving their own path. Luchino Magliano has staked his claim as the brightest young talent the city has to offer. His Italian culture isn’t just important to the designer, it’s integral to his brand’s existence.
For his first physical show, Magliano took to Circolo Arci Bellezza, a cultural space in the south of the city that was favoured by Luchino Visconti. The revered Italian film director shot his film Rocco and His Brothers at the location, a story about a “mysterious, cruel Milan, where the encounter is physical, brutal, violent,” notes the press release.
The show fashioned a nocturnal, melancholy atmosphere, as models slowly circled a bed frame, gawking at guests who watched from dining tables. They came in slouched suiting in olive green and chocolate brown wools, as well as mohair cardigans and old fashioned night caps translated as beanies. One blush pink jacket looked like a Chanel tweed blazer that had been chewed up and spat out. It made a fitting wardrobe for the new guard, not to be slept on.
