Dsquared2: Pre-Fall 2023

The best kind of wish list is a vintage one; especially if it’s thrifted; especially if it’s Dsquared2. The Canadian born, Milan-based luxury label has just unveiled its pre-fall offering for 2023 and it’s an eclectic mix and match of rugged and refined pieces inspired by thrift store gems. Design duo Dan and Dean Caten called the collection Thrift Store Wishlist, perfectly encapsulating what the collection is: all the best items over all the best decades under one ragtag roof.

Dazzling disco dresses, 1960s minis and varsity athletic wear make up the majority of the women’s range. However, a mix of modern and retro, eclectic layering and clashing patterns are abundant throughout. There are sheer fabrics embroidered with pearls and sequins, plissé lingerie styles and kitschy leopard print catsuits and coats, too. Elsewhere, an elegant yet uninhibited floor-length number is completely covered in bugle beads giving it a glam rock-and-roll style for all the groupies out there. Not to mention the thigh-high, embroidered cowboy kicks, a collection highlight.

The looks – paired with noughties-style crossover platform sandals in leopard or denim with appliquéd stars and maple leaves – feel pretty and sweet at times, or come imbued with the rebellious attitude of a ’70s punk. After all, you never know what you’ll find at the thrift shop.

The men’s range, on the other hand, feels a lot more ‘Old Western’. Rife with vaqueros, dark metallic cowboy boots, huge round felt hats and outdoor motifs you’ll be raring your lasso to bring the bits home. Notions of Americana come through in varsity jackets and athletic pants, which are counterposed by femme shirting with lace-trimmed collars and bibs, worn under rugged leather jackets and coupled with Dsquared2 baseball caps. There are also stone washed and bleached denims coated in either crystals or a fresh, glittery finish.

Throughout, classic silhouettes are dosed with the disobedience of Dsquared2 affecting everything from silk florals with crystal trimmings, to bouclé tweed jackets and hot pants, and even ’50s style coats or ’00s satin tracksuits. Dsquared2 is boundless.
