Me And My Watch: Miguel Enamorado On His Vintage Gold Rolex Presidential

You can tell a lot about a man from the watch he’s wearing. Luckily for us, the gents featured here know what to choose when it comes to the best wrist candy out there.

MIGUEL ENAMORADO, accessories director at Harper’s Bazaar

What watch are you wearing?

I’m wearing a vintage gold Rolex Presidential.

Tell us about it.

I believe it’s a ’70s/’80s Day-Date model in gold with a Presidential link bracelet.

How did you come to own it?

It’s one of my favourite timepieces and I’ve always had my eye on owning one. It was a special gift from my husband that he sourced with a trusted vintage dealer who found the most perfect one.

What’s the story behind it?

We were on vacation at my friend [fashion editor] Lizzette Kattan’s idyllic house on the island of Roatán in Honduras. It was my birthday and Barry, my husband, along with my friends had arranged a pre-dinner drink on the beach. To my surprise, as I walked up the stairs of their pool house balcony, I noticed that no one else was there and there was a table with flowers and champagne. Upon closer look I noticed coconuts on the floor arranged in a large heart shape outlining the table. It was then, with my heart pounding and electrified with excitement, that I turned around only to see through watering eyes that Barry, now on one knee with Rolex in hand, was looking up at me. I immediately said yes, yes, yes! I remember trying to keep my arm steady as he nervously placed the beautiful timepiece on my wrist and clicked it closed.

What do you love about it and why is it your favourite?

It is my favourite because it stands as a golden symbol of love shared and a commitment to this love.

When do you wear it and what do you wear it with?

I wear it as an everyday watch. It’s a refined sporty watch that can go well with a pushed-up sweater as well as a suit, but is most handsome on a beach with a swimsuit.

What would be a dream watch for you to own?

I think, as any watch lover [will tell you], there is not one but a wish list that contains watches I’m looking for, dreaming about and constantly searching for on vintage watch sites. Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 [is at the] top of the list, as is a Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse with navy face and strap, while the ultimate unreachable dream is a Cartier Crash watch.
