I’m wearing a moka coffee pot pendant by Anissa Kermiche, which was part of a very small collection she did about a decade ago. Apparently she got rid of it soon after because it was commercially disastrous. She maintains that I am one of only about two people who got one.
That being said, people ask me about it all the time, and everyone is totally charmed by it. I wear it almost every day, because it’s little and inconspicuous, and I like playing with its tiny handle – it has that talismanic property which so much jewellery takes on when you wear it all the time.
The pot is also quite a chunky nugget, it nearly knocks my teeth out if I get too enthusiastic at the gym! I’ve only started getting into jewellery in the past few years or so, mostly because I’ve run out of wardrobe space. I’m obsessed with anything by Ilaria Icardi. Although my dream purchase at this precise moment would be the gold Guichets watch by Cartier, or a vintage Polo 79 by Piaget in yellow gold.
This necklace was given to me by my husband [playwright Enda Walsh] for Christmas, but I honestly can’t remember when. At least 10 years ago. He makes me a coffee in a moka every morning and brings it to me in bed. Which is nauseatingly adorable of him. And one of the many reasons I love him most in the world. I wear the coffee pot and think of him. And caffeine – my second greatest love.
