How do you follow a 10-year anniversary show which had stadium level production and couture level craftsmanship? For Mary Katrantzou, the answer lay in the elements and the creation myth (a Greek one, naturally, posited by Empedocles in the 5th century BC). Earth, wind, fire and water were the starting points for incredible embroideries, and lavishly worked textures. The show opened with Natalia Vodianova in a supernova sunburst of yellow ruffles and feathers. She was followed by models wearing enveloping creations in various shades of space nebula (the Hubble telescope had a hand in making these celestial bodies). Cracked earth embroideries, flame prints, cloud-like silhouettes and whole landscapes rendered in sequins came down the catwalk. Hundreds of hours of craft went into making of this collection, which was not short on wow! Out of this world? On another planet.
