Marni: Ready-to-wear AW16

Sleeves are huge at Marni. Literally and ideologically. They tended to balloon below the elbow, like a reversed leg-of-mutton, which sounds a bit like a dog yoga move but is actually a sleeve that poufs about the forearm and makes your bicep look nice and skinny. Consuelo Castiglione, Marni’s creative director, ruffled them up with chunks of velvet ribbon at the top and bottom, creating pretty, picture-perfect gathers of fabric like chic Renaissance heroines. It was sort of a modernist Eleanor of Toledo, or so we were told by a arty-farty smarty-pants person who knows about such things. Generally we just loved the way they looked, and also warranted we could shove a tube of Pringles up each one and smuggle it into a Vue cinema when we go watching the next Star Wars film. Beautiful, and practical. Thanks, Marni.
