Dior just turned its attention to footwear, immortalising its finest new shoes in polaroid form. Lensed by stylist, designer, art director and famed fashion photographer Maripol, the immaculate craft and excellence of Dior is everlasting. It’s a dreamy new kinetic campaign showcasing some of the maison’s most iconic models, as well as its freshest essential objects of desire cut from the Dior fall 2022 and autumn-winter 2022/2023 ready-to-wear collections. While the pastel-stained short film feels imbued with a sense of unfettered audacity and spontaneity, the photos are more mellow, marking the second chapter in Maripol’s framing of Dior footgear since she first captured the fall 2021 line in candy-colours.
The spunky crusade offers a reverie of the full monty; from Dior’s open-toe options, its every-day chelsea and combat boots and its class-act kitten heels, to warm fur-lined loafers, sleek ballet flats and skate-style trainers. Specifically, the Idylle ballerinas, D-Motion pumps, Dior Code moccasins, Dior One sneakers and D-Racer ankle boots are illuminated in a hazy light – some with slick, sporty logos and others with more brazen-faced branding.
Maripol is one of fashion’s most lauded photographers and is often reputed as the “gatekeeper of 80s club culture”, capturing her disco-dancing muses via punchy one-take polaroids. She’s had the whole who’s-who of art, fashion and pop-culture on the other end of her camera – from Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat to Madonna, Debbie Harry, Bianca Jagger and Grace Jones – so, who better to apotheosize an iconic Parisian brand’s fancy footwear than she. At Dior, Maripol is a visionary, elevating its footwear lines with one finger on the shutter release button and one foot, spryly in front of the other.
