WATCH: Dolce & Gabbana Dress Madonna And Friends For Her New Album Film

Madonna and Dolce & Gabbana are back in business. The Italian fashion house has teamed up with the Queen of Pop for Confessions II – The Film, a slick new visual companion to her forthcoming album that premiered at New York’s Beacon Theatre during the Tribeca Film Festival on June 5.

Directed by David Toro and Solomon Chase of Torso and produced by Division, the film runs for more than 10 minutes, weaving together the album’s first six tracks into one continuous visual experience. Music and moving images unfolding as one, with Madonna front and centre in a series of striking looks curated by Dolce & Gabbana. Alongside her, a bold cast of characters including Odessa A’zion, Cole Palmer, Kate Moss, Sabrina Carpenter, Archie Madekwe, Gwendoline Christie, Arca, Shygirl, Benedict Cumberberbatch, her daughter Lourdes Leon and more, whilst somewhat strange scenes unfold from a forest with women shooting lasers out of their nether regions to a POV car accident that folds into a sexed-up club night. A fitting cameo comes by the way of Julia Garner too, as the actress is slated to play the singer in an upcoming biopic about her life.

The collaboration builds on a relationship that stretches back to the early 1990s, with the brand once again stepping into Madonna’s world to shape the film’s wardrobe. Pulling from both the label’s archives and more recent collections, the costume direction dresses Madonna and the extended cast in a line-up of unmistakably Dolce silhouettes. Think corsetry, sharp tailoring, dramatic embellishment and plenty of attitude.

More than a fashion cameo, the wardrobe forms a key part of the film’s visual language, connecting Madonna’s ever-evolving iconography with Dolce & Gabbana’s signature glamour. The result is a high-gloss collision of music, fashion and reinvention – exactly the kind of pairing you’d expect from two cultural powerhouses with decades of shared history behind them.
