Virgil Abloh and Nigo Team Up for Louis Vuitton’s LV² Collection

Working alongside fellow creatives is an integral component to Virgil Abloh’s vision. So it’s rather surprising that since he took the helm at Louis Vuitton as the artistic director for menswear back in 2018, he hasn’t collaborated with a single designer. Well, that’s until now. Joining forces with Nigo, founder of Japanese streetwear giant BAPE, the two creative polymaths have envisioned LV² – a standalone collection of ready-to-wear, accessories and shoes. Inspired by the codes which have shaped Louis Vuitton’s heritage, the pair have utilised a Damier check reminiscent of LV’s early days, overlaying it with the brand’s monogram to add a contemporary feel. LV² (pronounced ‘Louis Vuitton squared’) looks to the “London Mod-era dandy through a Tokyo lens”. Sharp suiting worn with classic Derbys and slick loafers comes toe-to-toe with louche denim twinsets. The epic collaboration even comes with its own symbol, the “LV Made” duck, which stamps holdalls and mini trunks. The symbol pays homage to Nigo’s own “Human Made” signature, re-interpreted LV style. We couldn’t think of a finer uniform to return to the outside world in.

Louis Vuitton’s LV² collection is available at Louis Vuitton’s Selfridges pop-up from August 28 – September 20, 2020
