Ludovic de Saint Sernin: Menswear SS20

Sex, sex, sex was the word on everyone’s lips following Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s steamy on-schedule debut yesterday afternoon. Forget getting frisky in your boyfriend’s car, the emerging designer opted for a rendezvous on top of the Pompidou Centre to reveal his SS20 collection. Titled Wet’N’Wild, the hyper-charged, immensely sensual oeuvre that Ludovic has crafted thus far in his career, seeped into the collection, yet this time the designer’s focus was tailoring. Whispy twin sets made from a totally transparent organza appeared slightly damp, as if the models had been up to no good before heading out onto the catwalk. Wife beater vests were stained with sweat marks, whilst a skirt made to look like a towel was the perfect attire for a quickie in the sauna.

Ludovic staples were re-contextualised into pool-side attire – last season’s low slung trousers now appeared in a light cotton, dotted with Swarovski crystals. The apron dress from the designer’s SS18 collection also made a return, draped into an asymmetric finish, sliced high at the thigh. The designer maintains a terrific ability to create garments which are minimal in design yet potently erotic. Whether it be a long sleeved polo spliced to expose the nipple or satin hot pants in a Kylie-esque finish, Ludovic designs for the confident, the liberated and those who love getting up to no good – no matter the location.
