LOUIS VUITTON: THE SHOP

Brazil. The home of Copacabana. The beach that inspired Barry Manilow’s greatest record. A song about a girl called Lola. A showgirl. And Tony. Who worked behind the bar. Yellow feathers and Rico. A tropical ode to love. The home of cachaça. The land of Carnival. And the telenovela, the Brazilian soap opera. Which is better than a carnival because you will always be blessed with an evil twin from which you were separated at birth. And a maid who, in a shocking season finale, turns out to be your mother. And you never die. Just come back from the dead. Like Jesus. A giant statue of whom overlooks Rio de Janeiro. Christ the Redeemer. He is perched on a hilltop. It is home also to São Paulo, the largest city in the southern hemisphere and the seventh most-populated city in world. Named after Saint Paul. And, in turn, is home to the newest Louis Vuitton boutique. Home to the first Louis Vuitton travel room in Latin America. A room dedicated to celebrating the beauty of travel luggage and accessories. Stacks upon stacks of steamer trunks and classy little wheelie things. All peppered in their distinctive monogram. Or Damier check, if you prefer a check. Check is having a bit of a moment, as it happens. On the Louis Vuitton catwalk. It would make sense to have a travel room. You have travelled to get there. Travelled to get to São Paulo. Unless you’re one of those people who Fed Exs everything ahead you’ll probably need something to keep your belongings in. Or you could admire the Maracatu by Fernando and Humberto Campana – a travel cabinet with a Brazilian twist and part of the Objets Nomades collection. Think of it as travelling furniture. Which is the future of travel. Why pack a case when you can just take your entire wardrobe with you wherever you go?
