Loewe: Ready-to-wear AW20

Loewe is at home in the art gallery. The chic international art crowd wear Loewe clothes inspired by the artists and their subjects hanging on their walls. Not that it looks historical. Jonathan Anderson channeled infanta grandeur for today. Dresses with flattened bodices swelled into gathered and ballooning skirts, peplum-ed jackets flared out over full dirndls, sleeves puffed to epic proportions. Even the shoulders on some looks were exaggerated with wired panniers. The volumes were grand and imposing. These were clothes that swept into a room – the feather wigs only added to the sense of movement. Craft is at the heart of Anderson’s Loewe. He is always finding new applications for the hand-made, whether it’s a bead encrusted cuff on a knit dress. This season, the designer collaborated with the artist Takuro Kuwata on ceramic plates incorporated into the front of dresses. They looked like collector’s pieces. And you know what the arty Loewe customer would have to say about that.
