There are very few photographers that quite inspire you to pick up a camera like Larry Fink. So much so, that after seeing his photographs in New York at the tender age of ten, I (heavily) bothered my parents to allow me to exclusively take the family photos for the rest of the holiday. Years on, there’s still something effortless about his work, misleading you into believing that taking great photos is really as straightforward as he makes it look. Lots of blurry, over-exposed Central Park pics later, I can tell you: it isn’t. Giorgio Armani, who just announced a new exhibition of Fink’s work at the Armani/Silos Museum, is also appreciative of this fact – ahead of tomorrows opening he said of the photog, “I find his ability to capture form and line in such a fluid way something I can really relate to as a designer.” The exhibition will, for the first time, feature Fink’s legendary ‘The Beats’ collection, shot at 18 in Greenwich Village at the dawn of the Sixties, alongside ‘The Vanities’, a series of the best celeb party paps you are ever likely to see from LA to NY, spanning the past thirty years. Fink added, “I am really pleased that Giorgio Armani has decided to exhibit The Beats and The Vanities together. The pictures have more in common that might at first be obvious: from two different very, very opposing levels of egotism, The Beats and The Vanities live within the same valley”
